This Week Was a Win, But It Wasn’t Just Luck

Success is never just about being in the right place at the right time. It’s about years of preparation, persistence, and the people who walk the journey with you. This week, I was humbled to experience a milestone moment: speaking at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
It was more than just an event. It was a reminder that behind every achievement lies the unseen hours of hard work, resilience, and the support of those who believe in you.
The Power of Preparation and Persistence
Standing on that stage, I reflected on the long journey that led there. Moments like these don’t happen by accident. They’re the result of:
- Dedication: countless hours spent learning, practicing, and refining.
- Resilience: pushing through setbacks and challenges that could have easily stopped progress.
- Courage: choosing to step forward even when fear whispers, “Not yet.”
Research backs this up. Angela Duckworth’s work on grit highlights that passion and perseverance are stronger predictors of success than talent alone (Duckworth, 2016).
Success Is Shared
I also met incredible people this week, leaders and visionaries who share a passion for growth, resilience, and creating positive change in their communities. These connections reminded me that success is not an individual pursuit. It’s about the colleagues, mentors, friends, and supporters who encourage us along the way.
Even the recognition of my book, Leadership Trilogy, being nominated for the ABLE Golden Book Award 2025, isn’t a solo win. It’s a shared one. It represents the voices, stories, and experiences of countless leaders who have influenced me and the teams I’ve worked with.
Lessons for Leaders
Whether you’re aiming to inspire your team, grow your business, or pursue personal goals, here are some reminders:
- Stay the course – Success is built brick by brick. Don’t underestimate the value of small, consistent efforts.
- Invest in your people – Your greatest wins will always involve the people who walk beside you. Create spaces of trust and safety where they can thrive.
- Celebrate progress, not just milestones – Every step forward is worth acknowledging. Gratitude fuels momentum.
If you want to take your leadership journey further, I encourage you to explore programs like Speak Safe, designed to build psychologically safe and high-performing teams. It’s a reminder that real success is creating environments where others can flourish too.
Closing Thoughts
This week was a win, but it wasn’t luck. It was the product of years of effort, the support of others, and a commitment to keep showing up.
And here’s my encouragement for you: don’t wait for luck to find you. Build the habits, relationships, and mindset that prepare you for when opportunity knocks.
What step can you take this week to move closer to your own “Opera House moment”?
