Why leadership is important
Leadership changes lives. Leadership unlocks humans. Leadership changes the planet. It is a big deal. Just think of your favourite leader, and how much they meant to you. That is why leadership is important. For those feels that you just got. They matter.
This is, in my humble opinion, why leadership is important.
1. Leadership is about service
“Servant leadership is all about making the goals clear and then rolling your sleeves up and doing whatever it takes to help people win. In that situation, they don’t work for you; you work for them” – Ken Blanchard.
Leadership is the second most important job on the planet. The most important job is parenting. No other job, apart from the emergency response fields of course, has the ability to impact others like leadership does.
Leaders, by showing up in service, and by serving their organisations, their greater teams, and their greater good, demonstrate to the universe that they are committed to humans, and they are committed to seeing other succeed.
The best leaders turn up in service; is why leadership is important.
2. Leadership is a labour of love
The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. That’s nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born” — Warren Bennis.
If you asked Google what percentage of people on the planet are born leaders, Google (or AI now) would return the number of 10%. That number seems arbitrary, but there is some science behind it. What it really means is that for every 10 leaders you run across, nine of them have had to slog it out, have had to work hard to develop those skills, have had to go through the school of leadership hard knocks.
There is one thing that I know to be true about leadership. It doesn’t come easy. It is hard work, and it is a skill that is developed over time and space. When you are lucky enough to experience a great leader, understand how much work has gone into that, and how much time, talent, and treasure has been invested in developing those skills. And maybe even thank that person for their efforts, and their leadership.
The effort that has gone into it; is why leadership is important.
3. Leaders change the world
“Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes” —Peter Drucker.
Think of any name, any influencer, any creator, any adventurer, any inventor, any entrepreneur, any business owner, any manager, any thinker, the one thing that they all have in common is leadership. And leadership skills. They all think big and lead big.
They all make a difference on the planet because they have the ability to inspire and motivate themselves and others, and most of them are household names, because of their ability to make a change. Make a difference. Make a meaningful impact.
Inspiring self and others to greatness; why leadership is important.
