How do you Train 240 People in Personal Leadership in 4 days???

With the help of an extremely well organised client, and with some purpose and some passion, is how you get it done!!!

The purpose piece was about sharing with everyone that they are all leaders, and the passion piece was about me showing up with an energy that showed how much I believe in the material and why it is important to understand it … and apply it!!!

And, the trainees are all located on a remote construction site, which made timing and travel difficult. Nothing we can’t handle, of course, and with the client’s assistance, most of the staff on site went through TGG training sessions that were focused on the ‘Everyone is a Leader’ message.

Leadership is about EQ

The sessions helped people understand that leadership is about life, and that the better you can lead yourself, the easier it is to lead others!!!  The sessions talked through the emotional control that leaders need to exhibit, and the fact that your emotions (and even your mood) are within your control, and you can change them in a heart-beat!

 Leadership is about the discussion

The EQ (emotional intelligence) aspect of leadership was a big part of the session, as was the importance of being empathetic to how others are feeling. Empathy (unlike sympathy and apathy – the opposite ends of the spectrum) is about putting yourself in other’s shoes, to understand their perspective, and their view. You see, their view point is shaped from their paradigm of the world, and their opinion is correct, and they have the absolute right, and the obligation, to share their view point.

And, as leaders, we encourage people to share their views – with a no harm, and a care factor approach, of course!!! The trainees at this site learnt how to handle the ‘disagreement discussion’ (and the ‘decision discussion’), and how to ensure that others are heard!

Leadership is about living by your values

We finished the sessions with a values-based session, where everyone was asked ‘how they wanted to be thought of, and how they wanted to be remembered’? What do you value, and what values do you live by?

The common values of integrity, authenticity and care were all discussed, as were honesty, trustworthiness and respectful.

In my personal opinion, this section of the program is potentially the most important, as it really helps people understand why they behave how they do, and it helps people frame up how they want to show up in the world!

The feedback was fantastic, as the trainees, appreciated that their business would invest in their professional development. And the back story is that the staff on site actually approached their management team, to request the training – isn’t that great that construction workers are seeing the value in the softer skills of their work!!!

In summary, the sessions went amazingly well, the trainees were happy, and the sessions made a difference! Just one of the emails I received following the training was “I also wanted to say it was a pleasure doing your course today and speaking to you”!

Job satisfaction plus, for the opportunity to influence others, and gratitude to an amazing client for having me on their site!
